[dt. »Auf-dem-Schoß(-Computer)«] der, zusammenklappbarer Mobilcomputer, in dessen Deckel ein LCD-Bildschirm (LCD) und in dessen Gehäuse eine Tastatur integriert ist. Er verfügt über Akkus und kann daher unterwegs ohne Netzanschluss benutzt werden. Die Standfläche ist in der Regel etwas größer als eine DIN-A4-Seite, das Gewicht liegt bei etwa 4 kg. Laptops sind heute weitgehend von den leichteren und meist handlicheren Notebooks abgelöst worden.
